The move of 28-year-old Ecuadorian left-back Pervis Estupiñán from Milan to Birmingham's Aston Villa has unexpectedly been put on hold.
According to insider Matteo Moretto, negotiations between the Italian and English clubs were in the final stages. The parties were close to agreeing on minor details concerning the structure of bonus payments.
However, head coach of the Rossoneri, Ruben Amorim, personally intervened in the process and requested that club officials pause the deal. The Portuguese manager wants to assess Estupiñán's form and capabilities during the team's summer pre-season tour before giving the final approval for his sale.
Aston Villa's head coach Unai Emery is very keen on signing Estupiñán, with whom he has successfully worked at Villarreal. The Ecuadorian is viewed as an experienced option for the left side of defence at the Birmingham club. It remains unclear whether the club officials at Aston Villa are willing to wait for the completion of Amorim's evaluation period.
