Ruben Amorim believes that his time at Manchester United helped him understand the weight of every decision at a global club. The Portuguese manager is convinced that his entire career has led him to the helm of Italian side Milan.
In the lead-up to a tough away match against Sassuolo in Serie A, Amorim spoke with DAZN journalists. His team faces a challenging schedule of nine games in less than a month. He took charge of Milan in the summer following his stints at Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United. According to the coach, the atmosphere in Italy reminds him more of his homeland.
The experience we’ve gained at other clubs helps us with each new challenge. Here, it feels more like Portugal. There’s a different kind of pressure because people outside the club are very passionate about the team. In England, it’s a bit different. Manchester United is as global a club as Milan, so everything you do carries weight. In my mind, everything I’ve gone through in my career was meant to lead me to this point at this special club.
Milan currently sit fifth in the league standings. The manager also addressed the performance of summer signing Goncalo Ramos, expressing full support for the forward.
I’m not going to say Ramos should run less. I’d never say that about a player. The main thing is that we’re scoring, and that’s the most important. I know that as a striker, he needs to find the net, and he will. He works hard, and if we’re scoring, it’s also thanks to Goncalo Ramos.
Amorim added that the club is building a team both for current challenges and the future, signing established stars alongside young talents.
We’re bringing in ready-made players like Ramos, who has already won the Champions League, but we also want to attract talents like Moreira. I’m truly happy to be here and feel a huge responsibility to help this club get back to where it belongs.
