Roy Keane hasn't dismissed the idea of stepping back into management. Recently, the former footballer has been hotly tipped for the managerial role at Scottish giants Celtic.
Keane made an appearance at the Old Firm derby to watch his former side in action and to support his close friend and colleague, Martin O'Neill.
O'Neill is under significant pressure following a disappointing run for Celtic, which has seen them suffer three consecutive defeats. He has hinted that he may step down if results don't improve, with an exit likely at the end of the season as his contract nears its conclusion.
In light of these swirling rumours, the Manchester Evening News has reported Keane's thoughts on a possible return to the demanding world of football management.
“Strangely enough, on weekends, when I watch matches, I notice some teams and think: ‘I could go there and do a job.’ But that’s mostly on weekends. Not during the week. Not on a Monday morning when I'm having scrambled eggs in a local café and just reading the paper. All these managers zip up and down the motorways, it’s all stress. But yes, those thoughts are there. I think there's always something inside. The fire still burns for something. If someone picks up the phone and offers me a job, who knows? But that’s unlikely.”
Keane could be an intriguing emergency option for Celtic if the club is in need of a shake-up before the current season wraps up.
