Rio Ferdinand believes Karim Benzema could strengthen Manchester United's attack. The Frenchman is a free agent following his exit from Al-Hilal.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has thrown his weight behind a potential move for Karim Benzema, who is now a free agent.

Ferdinand contends that the French striker's wealth of experience could be just what Michael Carrick's side needs to enhance their attacking prowess.

The 38-year-old Benzema has parted ways with Saudi club Al-Hilal and is available for acquisition without any transfer fee. Ferdinand has identified him as a player who could be a valuable addition for United.

"You immediately think of Welbeck, and of course Benzema. I believe both players could provide massive benefits to our attacking line," Ferdinand stated in an interview with The Sun.

Manchester United's attacking woes

This season, Manchester United have faced significant challenges with consistency in their centre-forward position. Benjamin Sesko has struggled with fitness issues, limiting his game time, while Joshua Zirkzee has fallen down the pecking order in the striking hierarchy.

In response, Mattheus Cunha has frequently pushed forward into a more central role, despite his best attributes being better suited to a supporting position behind the main striker.

Ferdinand believes that an experienced centre-forward is essential, someone who can provide a reliable option in attack while also nurturing the younger talents in the squad.

How Benzema could benefit United

Benzema fits that bill perfectly. The Ballon d'Or winner has a proven track record at the highest level and continues to find the back of the net. Before his departure from Al-Hilal, the Frenchman scored ten goals in just twelve league matches.

A possible move for Benzema would represent a short-term solution rather than a long-term investment. Furthermore, he could help share the workload with Sesko while offering invaluable guidance during a crucial phase of the Slovenian's development.

Ferdinand also mentioned his former teammate Danny Welbeck as another viable option for the Red Devils.
