Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez has caught the eye of both Real Madrid and Newcastle United. As reported by CaughtOffside, the future of the 24-year-old Spaniard at the Etihad is up in the air as the transfer window reaches its final stages.
Real Madrid's interest in Gonzalez has grown after their attempts to sign Rodrigo fell through. The Spanish club is considering other midfield options, including Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace.
Newcastle, however, appears to be more keen, having already held preliminary talks with Manchester City regarding a potential transfer, though they have yet to submit an official bid.
The Magpies are viewing Gonzalez as a viable option to bolster their midfield following the departures of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes. The club is eager to secure a new central midfielder before the summer window shuts.
Gonzalez's position in Enzo Maresca's squad is also under scrutiny, having played just 11 minutes during the Community Shield match against Arsenal.
Manchester City signed the midfielder from Porto back in February 2025 for €60 million, with his current contract running until the summer of 2029. Transfermarkt values him at around €40 million, though it remains unclear what price City would demand for his sale.
