After Portugal's impressive win against Denmark, Rafael Leao opened up about the deep personal meaning behind the number seven shirt he wears for his country.
The forward revealed that his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo has long shaped his career, making the number even more significant to him.
“It is a special honour for me to wear the number 7 jersey because Cristiano has been my idol since childhood. My children were also born on the seventh, so I am extremely happy,” Leao stated.
Leao holds the legendary number in high regard
Leao stresses that he's keenly aware of the prestige that comes with wearing such a famous number and strives to represent it with respect on the international stage.
“I do everything I can to honour this number and this shirt. I am thrilled with our victory,” the Portuguese international added.
For Leao, the number seven carries not just the weight of his boyhood hero, but a family narrative as well. He expressed his delight at having the chance to don this number for the Portuguese national team.
