Former Manchester United defender Quinton Fortune has urged the club to secure a new striker prior to the closing of the summer transfer window. In his view, 22-year-old Benjamin Sesko requires assistance up front, with Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson seen as a superb addition.
In his debut season at Old Trafford after a £73 million transfer from RB Leipzig, Sesko netted 12 goals in 32 appearances. His form improved during the latter part of the campaign, especially after Michael Carrick took over from Ruben Amorim.
Fortune’s assessment:
“United need another forward. Sesko scored 12 goals, while Bruno Fernandes had nine. The team is crying out for more depth, especially as Sesko is still young and carries significant responsibility. In my day, we had Solskjaer, Sheringham, Yorke, Cole, and later on van Nistelrooy and Rooney. A young player could learn from them. What happens if Sesko gets injured? To compete in the Premier League and the Champions League, a larger squad is essential.”
On Nicolas Jackson:
Nicolas Jackson is a fantastic option. Having returned from his loan at Bayern, he continues to attract interest from big clubs. He is focused solely on the penalty area and finishing attacks. In some ways, he reminds me of Erling Haaland: he doesn't need to be involved in build-up play all the time; his role is to score goals.
There is also interest from Aston Villa and Newcastle for the 25-year-old Senegalese striker, whom Chelsea values at £65 million.
