The editorial team at BritBall.Net has released the first power rankings for the 2026/27 season of the Premier League, drawing inspiration from the popular NBA format. In ranking the top thirty players, experts combined overall quality with current form to spotlight the main contenders for the upcoming PFA Player of the Year award.
In this initial list, injured players are entirely omitted (which is why Alexander Isak doesn’t feature), and early results inevitably lean towards the big names. Nevertheless, the early fixtures have produced some truly impressive breakthrough performances.
The top three: unstoppable Norwegian, Brighton veteran, and City's transfer success
Occupying the summit is Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. The arrival of Enzo Maresca as manager, replacing Pep Guardiola, has had no adverse effect on the Norwegian’s remarkable goal-scoring form: he has netted six times in six league outings, displaying phenomenal finishing prowess.
The standout surprise of the season's start sees 35-year-old Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross in an impressive second place. The German playmaker, returning to England from Borussia Dortmund, is enjoying an incredible renaissance under the guidance of Fabian Hurzeler, surpassing the quality of his previous best years at the Seagulls.
Rounding out the top three is Manchester City's new recruit, Elliot Anderson, whose £116 million transfer is increasingly being hailed as a masterstroke. The former Nottingham Forest midfielder held his own against Manchester United in a tense derby, especially after City's red card, and then put in a stunning display against Liverpool at Anfield.
Challengers for the top ten and Arsenal's dominance
Arsenal has made quite the statement, placing three players in the top six:
- Martin Odegaard (4th place): has carried his superb form from the international stage into club matches and looks fit as a fiddle.
- Declan Rice (5th place): anchors the team effectively in midfield, having gained a powerful partner in Bruno Guimaraes (25th place).
- David Raya (6th place): has solidified his status as the league's best goalkeeper, famously saving a penalty against Enzo Le Fee.
Chelsea has also made a strong showing in the top ten. Following Joao Pedro (7th place), considered by many as the league’s most versatile forward, is the most expensive British player Morgan Rogers (9th place), along with Cole Palmer (10th place), rounding off the Blues’ attacking trident. Manchester United's captain Bruno Fernandes sits in 11th, thanks to a hat-trick against Ipswich, although his efforts can’t completely mask the Red Devils’ sluggish start to the season.
