Manchester City's appeal regarding financial irregularities may encounter additional hurdles due to a statement made by the club's main sponsor, Etihad Airways, back in 2015.
At that time, Etihad approached the US government, labelling claims that the sponsorship of Manchester City was financed by the Abu Dhabi government as "false." The airline maintained that the deal was funded completely from its own resources.
Now, as reported by Sky Sports, Manchester City is expected to argue in their appeal that additional funding for sponsorship agreements actually came from the Abu Dhabi government rather than the club's owners, ADUG.
Consequently, Etihad's statement made over a decade ago could contradict one of the key arguments the club is relying on in its appeal.
