London's Chelsea has officially announced the signing of 22-year-old Argentine defender Valentino Barco, who played for the affiliated French club Strasbourg. The Argentina international has signed a long-term deal with the Blues, lasting until 2033.
The signing of the Argentine footballer is a direct response from the management to the departure of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid earlier this summer. Barco, who previously made six Premier League appearances for Brighton, is capable of covering both the left flank of defence and playing in midfield.
Last season, the full-back made a name for himself in the French league, recording 12 goal contributions in all competitions for Strasbourg. His successful performances allowed him to break into the Argentina national team.
The defender also found himself in the spotlight during the recent World Cup semi-final, where he had an altercation with Jude Bellingham after Argentina's 2-1 victory over England.
The Argentine versatile player will join Xabi Alonso's squad for pre-season training in the coming days.
