The Spanish tactician candidly admitted that his players failed to meet basic gameplay requirements, particularly during the first half. He refused to make excuses for the heavy loss:
“Brighton deserved to win. We spent too long neglecting the basics, especially in the first half. We didn’t win enough duels, and we lost the battle for second balls, which stretched our structure.”
Arteta highlighted that Arsenal's errors cost them dearly against a team that pressed high:
“We made mistakes and didn’t uphold our principles against a team that wants to press you. As a result, we were continually under pressure and couldn’t escape it as we usually do.”
He praised Brighton’s high level of commitment, which made the defeat even more frustrating for the Gunners:
“We must give them credit for how they played and how they gave their all in every moment. We fell short of the standards we need, which are also required in the Premier League.”
Arteta noted that missed opportunities compounded Arsenal's struggles in this match:
“When you miss chances like we did today, it becomes almost impossible to succeed. I want to congratulate Brighton on what they achieved.”
