Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has discussed rising transfer prices, the future of 19-year-old midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, as well as offering updates on the recoveries of key defenders Jurriën Timber and William Saliba.
The Spanish boss commented on the inflated prices seen in today’s football market:
Yes, it surprised me. I wouldn’t bet on it… but that’s the market. A player’s value is what someone is willing to pay.
Arteta also addressed the future of promising young midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, stressing the importance of regular game time:
I want him to stay at the club, but what’s best for the player in the medium and long term is what matters. He needs to play regularly. If he stays, we must ensure he gets that game time.
Additionally, the Gunners' boss evaluated the condition of his recovering defenders:
Timber is progressing excellently, he’s already training on the pitch… just a few more weeks to go. I hope he will start training with the main group next week. As for Saliba – we all know that it’s a long-term injury.
Arteta highlighted that the club maintains its ambitious outlook:
We want to develop the squad and strengthen specific positions.
