Head coach of Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, has commented on the club's transfer ambitions, explaining why Bruno Guimaraes's integration into the midfield will be a key factor in their pursuit of major titles:
"I think the first thing you notice about Bruno is his mentality. Even before we talk about his ball handling, passing, game control or physical attributes, you see a player who hates losing.
This is extremely important for us.
We didn’t bring in Bruno just to bolster the numbers in midfield. We brought him in because we believe he can take this team to the next level.
I have been watching him for a long time and have always admired his game. He demands the ball, takes responsibility, fights for his teammates, and freely shows emotion when things aren’t going right. These are the qualities needed to win trophies.
We already have fantastic midfielders. Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, Martin Subimendi, and others in this area provide us with incredible depth. But Bruno brings an additional layer of character. He can play as a deep-lying midfielder or push further up the pitch, pressing actively, fighting physically, and performing under pressure.
We are no longer building a team to settle for second place. We are building a team that believes it should be winning. Bruno knows the club's expectations. Arsenal fans want to see more than just talk about competing in the Premier League or the Champions League; they want to see real trophies in their hands.
I told Bruno in our discussions that I don’t want to see him thinking things like, ‘Let’s see what we can achieve.’ I want him to think, ‘What are we going to win?’ When a squad has players with such a mindset, it lays the groundwork for something special.
So no, Bruno Guimaraes did not come here to just fight for trophies. He came to win them. And we expect him to help us do exactly that.
