Michael Carrick has responded to Lisandro Martinez's pointed criticism of Manchester United's hierarchy after the club's 2-0 defeat to Atletico in the Champions League.
In the aftermath of the game, Martinez voiced his dissatisfaction with the club's transfer policy, expressing disappointment in particular with the club's technical director, Jason Wilcox.
Addressing reporters, Carrick acknowledged that while he was aware of the sentiments expressed, he did not wish to rush to judgement immediately after such a disappointing result.
"I haven't seen the interview. I’ve only heard bits and pieces during other interviews he has given.
I think the emotions from the match played a role. We came here hoping for a result, and we are disappointed that we didn’t achieve that.
Right after a game is not the best time to discuss this interview, as I haven’t seen it and so I can’t really comment on the situation,” the manager stated.
Carrick also reminded everyone involved that Manchester United need to quickly switch their focus to the next match.
"It’s important for us to move on as quickly as possible. We have a big game on Sunday, and it’s crucial that we maintain our concentration and prepare for it.
There is disappointment within the squad. I myself am very disappointed with certain moments, and the players feel this as a unified group,” he added.
This defeat to Atletico has increased the pressure on Manchester United, who continue to navigate a challenging spell this season. Carrick’s focus now shifts to preparing the team for their upcoming fixture, while the manager refrains from publicly evaluating Martinez's criticisms until he has reviewed the interview.
