Manchester United have paid Ruben Amorim £8.2 million as compensation following his departure from the club, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
This amount could have been significantly higher, potentially reaching £16.5 million, had the Portuguese not taken charge at AC Milan shortly after his exit.
Amorim left his role less than a year into his tenure, with Michael Carrick stepping in as his replacement.
Financial reports from United indicate the club recorded unexpected costs of £36.6 million for the year ending June 30, 2025. This figure includes restructuring expenses, the departure of Erik ten Hag, and contributions to address the Football League's pension scheme deficit. Amorim's payout formed part of these extensive expenses.
The 38-year-old took over the reins in November 2024 and managed the team for 63 matches, achieving 25 wins, 15 draws, and 23 defeats.
In the Premier League, the team finished in 15th place — marking the worst result in the club's history in the competition. However, in May 2025, United did reach the Europa League final, where they were beaten by Tottenham.
Amorim was let go in January 2026 after a string of poor results, ultimately taking up his new role at Milan.
