Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw missed Manchester United's training ahead of their Champions League match against Atletico. Michael Carrick's team struggles with injuries, but Matthijs de Ligt has finally returned to group training.

Manchester United are grappling with fresh injury concerns ahead of their away fixture in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid.

Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and defender Luke Shaw missed the open training session at Carrington on Monday. The coaching team will make a final decision later regarding whether the duo will travel to Spain.

Shaw was forced off in the closing stages of Saturday’s Premier League draw with Tottenham (1-1). Mainoo completed the full 90 minutes in that match but is also dealing with health issues.

The injury list for United continues to grow, with Michael Carrick's side missing out on the services of Patrick Dorgu, Noussair Mazraoui, and Benjamin Sesko for the upcoming fixture.

On a brighter note, defender Matthijs de Ligt has resumed training with the team, continuing to build his fitness after a long absence.
