Legendary midfielder David Silva is making a stunning return to professional football. The former Manchester City star, now 40, has decided to revive his career and sign with Hong Kong club Sha Tin.
Silva hung up his boots in the summer of 2023 following a serious knee injury sustained during pre-season training with Real Sociedad. At that moment, it seemed he had drawn the curtains on his illustrious playing days.
However, three years on, the Spaniard has made the decision to step back onto the pitch.
In a video shared on social media, Silva expressed his excitement:
I’m very happy to go to Hong Kong, experience the local culture, try the food in Sha Tin, and of course, enjoy football in Hong Kong.
The majority of Silva's career was spent at Manchester City, where he played from 2010 to 2020. Over a decade, he helped the club secure 11 major trophies, including four Premier League titles.
On the international stage, Silva was a key figure for Spain, winning the World Cup in 2010 and lifting the European Championship trophy twice in 2008 and 2012.
Now, he aims to assist Sha Tin, who currently sit 8th in the Hong Kong league after four matches.
The team’s next match is scheduled for October 18 against Hong Kong FC. This could mark Silva's first official appearance on the pitch after his three-year hiatus from the game.
