Chelsea's legendary former captain John Terry has voiced his approval of the appointment of Xabi Alonso as head coach, praising the club's hierarchy for their shift in transfer strategy this summer.
After a disappointing tenth-place finish in the Premier League last season, Chelsea have backed the Spanish manager with significant investment in the market, bringing in Morgan Rogers for a record £117 million, along with Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palastra, Valentina Barco, and Pep Chavarria. The club has adopted a new direction, opting for a blend of youth and experience by also signing veterans like Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck.

On Xabi Alonso's appointment:
I really like him; I loved him as a player. I met him recently at the training ground and had a great impression from our conversation. From what I’ve heard from the lads—though it’s still early days—players have responded positively to him and the training sessions he’s running.
On the strength of the coach:
I must also say that regarding the market and where Chelsea stands right now, I genuinely believe he’s the best we could have got. I think it’s a fantastic appointment. Having a young, ambitious manager who can connect with the players is a key point.
On the experience brought in by Henderson, Welbeck, and Lacroix:
It feels like we’ve lacked a bit of experience in recent years, but now we definitely have it in the team. Danny Welbeck, Jordan Henderson, and Lacroix in defence—I think they will be crucial players and will set the tone, establishing high standards as players who’ve performed at the top level.
On the roles of the newcomers for the youth:
Welbeck is an excellent signing for me. As for Jordan Henderson, I mentioned this during the World Cup: he’s still a top player with a lot to give, and he’ll help guide these young lads. I think we can all agree that we have fantastic young talent, and we were simply crying out for experience. Now we have not only the right manager but also three or four very experienced players.
