Newcastle midfielder Joelinton has shared his thoughts on the departure of his close friend Bruno Guimaraes, who recently transferred to Arsenal for £75 million.
Joelinton admitted that saying goodbye was tough, but acknowledged that football is always on the move.
"There's never a time to cry because football always moves forward. As I talk about Eddie, the same goes for Bruno - he's a wonderful person for Newcastle who has left the club. What he achieved here was amazing, and we must remember that. He always gave everything for the club and respected everyone. We will remember him as a great player because that’s what he was. We wish him all the best, but football doesn’t stop. Players and coaches come and go, only the fans and the club remain constant. We are always moving forward. We’ve had great players, and now we’ve brought in newcomers who we hope will benefit the club in the coming years."
The Brazilian also added with a hint of humour that his friend won’t receive a warm welcome when Arsenal visit St. James' Park this season. That match is set for November 21.
"As a footballer, you have to make decisions, and he made his choice. Of course, he was sad to leave because he loved this city and the club. He had a great relationship with the fans, so it wasn’t easy for him. Now it’s all in the past, and we wish him all the best. But when he comes here, life won’t be easy for him! We’ll be waiting for him, and we’ll give him a reception. He did an excellent job, and I wish him nothing but the best, as he is one of my best friends in life. I wish all the best to him and his family."
