Jean-Philippe Mateta has expressed immense gratitude towards Milan after his transfer was derailed due to a failed medical exam.
The Crystal Palace striker discovered that his knee injury was far more serious than he had been led to believe by the Premier League club.
Initially, the French forward was left deeply disappointed as his €35 million transfer fell apart at the very last moment.
However, Mateta now views that failed medical as a pivotal moment. He is thankful that the doctors at Milan were able to detect the issue in time.
"I was undergoing the medical, and suddenly everything stopped. My knee injury turned out to be more serious than I was told. When they explained it to me, a whirlwind of thoughts raced through my mind," Mateta shared in an interview with Canal+ Foot.
The 29-year-old added that he no longer regrets the failed transfer.
"In the end, I have no regrets, because if I hadn’t gone through that medical exam, how long would I have carried this knee issue? How long? Fortunately, I had the exam and found out exactly what was wrong with me," he added.
