Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has opened up about how Sergio Ramos was a major influence during his childhood. As England prepares to take on Spain in the Nations League, Branthwaite reflects on the impact Ramos had on him.
Branthwaite shared:
Growing up, I watched a lot of matches featuring Real Madrid and Barcelona. I saw what a tremendous leader Sergio Ramos was and how aggressively he defended. Plus, he scored quite a few goals.
He could do nearly everything on the pitch, so he was an excellent example to aspire to.
The 24-year-old has made his return to the England squad following issues with his hamstring. Under the advice of Everton manager David Moyes, he underwent a four-week rehabilitation programme in Germany over the summer.
Branthwaite also discussed the objective laid out by Thomas Tuchel for the England team in the Nations League:
The manager's message was clear: go all the way and win the tournament. Claiming the Nations League title would be a significant achievement for us. The task is to play all ten matches and strive for a positive result in each.
