Jamie O'Hara harshly criticised Jan Paul van Hecke after Tottenham's draw with Manchester United, blaming the defender for Brian Mbeumo's goal and claiming the £52 million spent on his transfer was a waste.

Jamie O'Hara has delivered a scathing criticism of Jan Paul van Hecke following Tottenham's 1-1 draw with Manchester United. The former Spurs player believes the defender allowed Brian Mbeumo to turn too easily and score.

United took the lead in the 73rd minute when Mbeumo received the ball in the box, turned and fired towards goal. Van Hecke was close by but failed to prevent the striker's shot.

O'Hara reacted emotionally to the incident on talkSPORT:

What is van Hecke doing?

He has cement in his legs. Cement.

He's dreadful. Absolutely dreadful.

A free shot from the box is just embarrassing.

The former Tottenham player didn't stop there and questioned the very transfer of the defender, who cost the club around £52 million in the summer.

O'Hara added:

Who on earth signed van Hecke? Who?

He needs to be sacked.

Brighton have absolutely conned us.

We let Vuskovic go and brought in this defender.

Every time an opponent goes one-on-one against him, they can take a shot without worry.

Former Spurs player Chris Waddle joined in on the criticism.

He noted:

Tottenham controlled the game, but Brian Mbeumo finished the chance excellently.

He took the ball away for a strike, and Jan Paul van Hecke looked incredibly uncertain.

I really didn't expect that outcome, but Tottenham was punished.

Despite conceding, Roberto De Zerbi's side managed to salvage a point. After Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off, Spurs were down to ten men, but Dominic Solanke equalised in stoppage time.
