Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has opened up about the tactical demands of the club's new head coach, Andoni Iraola.
The Swedish forward has made a bright start to the season, scoring three goals in four Premier League matches after joining from Newcastle for a record £125 million in 2025.
According to Isak, Iraola is keen for him to actively engage in a high press, enabling the team to transition swiftly into attack.
He asks me to get involved in defending, but in positions where we can quickly counter-attack and get the ball to the forward line.
He wants me to defend. How we defend is for the sake of goals. Ultimately, our defence is our attacking weapon.
I think that’s what the team needs — to deliver the ball quickly to the attacking players. If we can do that, we’ll score more.
Isak also praised his connection with Cody Gakpo, who has provided assists for all three of his goals this season.
So far, it's definitely been successful. He’s very versatile. He can do almost everything on the pitch, feels comfortable on the wing, and can drop deep to collect the ball. As we can see, it's paying off.
