England captain Harry Kane has highly commended Anthony Gordon's progress after his switch from the Premier League to Barcelona.
The Bayern Munich forward feels that competing for one of Europe's biggest clubs has bolstered the Englishman's confidence on the pitch.
Gordon has found the net in his last two appearances for the national team — in the 3-2 defeat to Spain and the 2-0 victory against the Czech Republic.
Kane is convinced that moving to Barcelona has had a positive effect on Gordon's mental approach to the game.
“I think sometimes moving to such a big club gives you more belief in yourself, more confidence. You feel capable of playing on the biggest stage, and I think he has taken that into his games for England.”
Kane was particularly impressed with Gordon's performances in the two recent matches.
“Against Spain on Saturday, he was magnificent, and again today he was the player who made the difference. He was always looking to drive forward and be the one to take us ahead. He finished the attack brilliantly.”
In the match against the Czech Republic, it was the combination of Anthony Gordon and Trent Alexander-Arnold that secured England’s second goal.
The defender provided a superb cross, and Gordon won the header to find the back of the net.
Kane also singled out Alexander-Arnold for praise:
“Trent was outstanding. His crosses, range of passing, and deliveries are top-notch. But today, he also excelled defensively. He just needs to keep working hard and not pay attention to anything else.”
Gordon himself praised Trent's quality of delivery after the match, admitting he had long wanted to play alongside him for the national side.
“I make that run time and again, and only a select few players have the ability, technique, and bravery to attempt a pass like that. Credit goes to Trent for that.”
Gordon added:
“That's why he’s so good, and I was really eager to play with him.”
