Liverpool legend Graham Souness believes that all of Manchester City's recent trophies could be in jeopardy if the Premier League's financial verdict is upheld.
The club has already been found guilty on 114 out of 115 charges and, while Manchester City deny any wrongdoing and plan to appeal, potential sanctions remain unconfirmed. These could include fines, points deductions, expulsion from the league, or even the stripping of titles.
Souness emphasised that Manchester City's successes should be reconsidered, implying that championships might be awarded to Liverpool instead:
Their legacy will be destroyed. If the ruling stands, they will forever be remembered as cheats. All their victories during this period will lose significance. There’s every reason to hand over a couple of Premier League titles to Liverpool. The loss of trophies will hit them hardest. Money isn’t an issue for them, so any financial penalty is merely a scratch on the surface. I don’t know about relegation as a form of punishment, but that would open a Pandora’s box far beyond football.
