George Gillett, the former co-owner of Liverpool, has sadly passed away at the age of 87.
The American businessman acquired a 50 percent stake in the Merseyside club in 2007, partnering with fellow American Tom Hicks. Their tenure was tumultuous, marked by significant fan unrest and financial issues that ultimately led to the forced sale of the club.
In 2010, Gillett and Hicks sold Liverpool to Fenway Sports Group, bringing an end to their turbulent three-year reign.
Beyond his involvement in football, Gillett also owned the NHL team Montreal Canadiens from 2001 to 2009. His passing was confirmed by the current owner and president of the ice hockey team, Jeff Molson.
