15-Second Brief
Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini is delighted that the club did not release Manu Kone to Chelsea for €60 million as they couldn't find a suitable replacement for the midfielder.

Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini is pleased that Manu Kone has chosen to stay at the club after Chelsea made a late push for the French midfielder. The Blues were keen on signing Kone in the dying seconds of the transfer window.

Manu Kone? There was definitely interest as the window closed, but he has remained with us. Finding a suitable replacement for him would have been impossible. I’m glad it turned out this way.

Chelsea had reportedly agreed on a deal worth €60 million, but the transfer hinged on whether Roma could swiftly identify a suitable successor.

The Italian outfit had considered bringing in substitutes like Youssouf Fofana and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg but ultimately failed to reach an agreement. Consequently, the move to the Premier League was blocked.

This season, the 25-year-old Kone has been crucial for Roma, featuring in all of their matches and netting two goals in six appearances.
