15-Second Brief
Gary Neville believes that the financial breach case has changed attitudes towards Manchester City’s victories. After their thrashing of Liverpool, he highlighted a banner at Anfield and stated that the final verdict could seriously harm the club's reputation.

Gary Neville believes that the high-profile financial case has altered the perception of Manchester City across England. Following the team's 3-0 victory over Liverpool, the former Manchester United defender admitted that he now views the club's successes very differently.

This was City's first match since the verdict on their numerous financial breaches in the Premier League. The club is contesting the ruling, so any final sanctions remain to be seen.

Despite the controversy, Manchester City has maintained their perfect start to the season with six wins from six matches.

One particular banner displayed by Liverpool fans at Anfield caught Neville's attention:

A whole generation of supporters have been deceived.

Neville remarked:

I thought that banner accurately reflected the mood across the country.

Manchester City have appealed and are confident they will win. If that is the case, everyone will say, 'Well, that’s fair enough.'

However, if the decisions stand, the club will face enormous problems.

The match remained competitive until Ryan Gravenberch received his second yellow card on the 62nd minute, allowing City to seize the advantage and secure a resounding victory.

Yet Neville confessed that the outcomes of such matches now feel peculiar due to the uncertainty surrounding potential punishments.

Right now, we don’t fully understand what this victory signifies.

It puts Manchester City three points ahead today, but there's a sense that the club's final standing might end up being very different.

Liverpool fans chanted accusations about breaches and hinted at potential relegation towards the end of the match.

Neville continued:

City supporters are, of course, pleased. But I think they’re still unaware of the damage this whole episode could inflict on the club's reputation.

All over the country, there will be plenty of frustration when people see this magnificent team winning matches. Enjoyment will be felt differently now.

He emphasised that although he has never cheered for City due to his rivalry with Manchester United, he could previously appreciate their football, something that has now changed.

I’ve never celebrated City’s victories, but I could always admire them.

Now, there’s a nasty aftertaste. It feels like watching something where you can’t be completely certain.

In contrast, Enzo Maresca focused solely on football after the match.

He stated:

I told the players right away: the noise around us will always exist. The question is how we learn to handle it.

Our task is to create our own noise. And for that, we need to win matches and celebrate victories.
