Former England international Fara Williams has offered her insights on Manchester United's state following pre-season.
Under the new management of Michael Carrick, who has secured a full contract after his successful stint as caretaker, the club has strengthened its midfield with the signings of Youri Tielemans and young talent Andre Santos from Chelsea for £50 million. However, the most surprising development is the return of Marcus Rashford, who spent the last 18 months on loan at Aston Villa and Barcelona. The forward has already featured in a friendly against Milan (2-4) in Wroclaw.
Fara Williams on Carrick's rebuilding efforts
Fara Williams commented:
Rashford's return feels like a fresh new signing that hasn’t received much attention. He has a great relationship with Carrick. The acquisition of Tielemans is also a significant boost. Michael is a fantastic manager; just look at how he has developed Cobbie Mainoo. Although there are doubts about the £50 million fee for Andre Santos, he is undoubtedly one of the best young talents in his position.
Williams stressed that while it wouldn’t hurt the Red Devils to strengthen their defensive line, the current squad is more than capable of balancing Champions League fixtures and competing for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
