New Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca has made it clear that he is not daunted by the challenge of replacing Pep Guardiola.
The Italian manager believes that the club's future could shine even brighter than its recent triumphant past.
This Sunday, the 46-year-old will take charge of his first official match, as the Citizens prepare to face Arsenal in the FA Community Shield.
"I consider this transition a privilege," Maresca said in an interview with TNT Sports.
"I don’t think it matters how fantastic the past has been. For me, the future can be even better."
Maresca is familiar with the inner workings of Manchester City, having previously managed the club's youth team and been part of Guardiola's coaching staff last season when they clinched the treble.
"I think City is a fantastic organisation. The work they have done over the last 15 years is simply incredible," he noted.
"When there is such chemistry between the club, the manager, and the players, it’s amazing. That’s what they’ve been doing here for years."
The coach understands that the team is undergoing significant changes following the departure of several key players from the Guardiola era, but he is solely focused on winning.
"These are big changes. But at the same time, when you are at a club like Manchester City, you must fight and you must win titles," he added.
"I just see how I work every day, trying to help the players, trying to help the club, and again, trying to win trophies."
