Emiliano Martinez is not backing himself to secure another major individual accolade.
The Argentine goalkeeper has endured a difficult initiation at Chelsea, conceding 10 goals in his first four matches for the club. Despite this rough start, his reputation, built during his time at Aston Villa and with the Argentine national team, shouldn’t be tainted too harshly.
Currently away on international duty, Martinez was asked about his prospects of winning the Yachine Trophy at the upcoming Ballon d'Or ceremony.
The Chelsea shot-stopper has made the cut for the top ten nominees for this prestigious award, having previously lifted it in 2023 and 2024.
However, Martinez is far from confident about making it a hat trick of wins. When asked about his chances of claiming the prize, he offered a stark response.
No chance. Messi has a shot — I don’t.
It’s worth noting that Martinez’s nomination comes as a result of his outstanding performances last season with Aston Villa, along with his contributions to Argentina's success on the international stage.
