Barcelona's sporting director Deco has weighed in on the speculation surrounding a potential transfer of 15-year-old forward Jay-Jay Gabriel from Manchester United. The talented teenager recently visited the Catalan club to hold talks.
Gabriel has reportedly requested Manchester United to terminate his current contract, with his dissatisfaction stemming from a lack of playing time during a recent Champions League victory over Sabah, where United triumphed 4-0.
As of now, there has been no official response from United regarding Gabriel's request. If the two parties do not come to an agreement for an early release, the young striker’s contract is set to run until the end of the season.
In light of the discussions with Barcelona, Deco has distanced his club from any immediate actions concerning the player.
The Barcelona chief stated:
I have nothing to say regarding this boy. We are often linked with certain players. Concerning his situation, I’m not aware of what has occurred.
We are not currently involved in this matter. It’s essential to understand all the circumstances before taking any actions or discussing young footballers.
Interest in Gabriel seems to stretch beyond Barcelona, with major European clubs including Real Madrid, PSG, Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea reportedly monitoring the player's situation.
