Bruno Fernandes unexpectedly found himself at the centre of discussion in Portugal following Manchester United's match against Fulham. This was due to the midfielder's decision to leave Craven Cottage on foot.
As he stepped out onto the street, fans approached the United captain, accompanied by security personnel and police. While some saw Fernandes' act as a sign of humility, others on Portuguese television had a different take.
TV presenter Antonio Leal remarked:
I don't consider this to be a display of humility at all. To be honest, I don't find such actions particularly charming.
There’s not much sense in it really. Just by choosing to walk alone, he still needed security and police escort. Someone of his fame can never go unnoticed.
Leal described the incident as unnecessary “folklore”:
For me, it’s all just folklore that carries no nobility.
Perhaps he had the best intentions or just did it for fun – I don’t judge him for it. But still, it feels a bit like showing off.
He even playfully suggested what such antics might lead to:
Next week, someone will walk out with a small dog, and the week after, someone else will invent something different. I think it’s all a bit much.
Throughout his jaunt, Fernandes didn’t make any grand statements, with the discussion stemming solely from his decision to leave the stadium on foot.
