Arsenal are on the verge of securing the signature of Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa. Sources indicate that the two clubs have brokered a deal worth £51 million, with additional bonuses included, yet an official confirmation remains forthcoming.
Manager Mikel Arteta hinted at the imminent strengthening of his defensive line, particularly in light of the long-term injury sustained by William Saliba.
“We have a specific problem in the backline, especially with Willy's long-term injury. We are lacking another defender, so we are trying to strengthen this area. When we are ready to announce something, we will let you know,” said the Spanish boss.
When asked if Konsa could be available for Arsenal's opening match of the season against Coventry City, Arteta remained optimistic while acknowledging the complexities surrounding the situation.
“I am always positive and confident. I can’t control that. It doesn’t depend on us. We are doing everything possible to achieve this goal,” the Gunners' manager added.
