Arsenal are considering a move for Barcelona defender Jules Kounde due to William Saliba's injury. The Catalan side is open to accepting a sizeable bid for the 27-year-old Frenchman, who can play both centrally and on the flanks.

Arsenal are eyeing a potential transfer for 27-year-old versatile defender Jules Kounde from Barcelona. The Gunners plan to make three significant signings in the final weeks of the transfer window as they aim to strengthen their defence, left flank, and central attacking options.

Reasons for interest and Barcelona's stance

  • Defensive injuries: Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is currently facing a defensive crisis. William Saliba has been ruled out for several months due to a back injury sustained while on international duty with France, while Jurriën Timber is continuing his recovery from a groin injury.
  • Alternative to Konsa: Initially, Arsenal had their sights set on Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa; however, the Birmingham club has reportedly demanded over £60 million for the England international. Arsenal consider this fee excessive and have redirected their attention towards Kounde.
  • Willingness to sell: According to reports from Sport, Barcelona are open to offers for the Frenchman. Last season, Kounde was not always a regular starter under Hansi Flick, which has led the Catalan club to be receptive to substantial offers. They are expected to seek at least €55 million, the amount they paid Sevilla for his transfer four years ago.

Kounde’s versatility, allowing him to excel both as a right-back and in central defence, makes him an ideal candidate for Mikel Arteta's system.
