Arsenal is making key adjustments in the framework of its academy, with Jordan McCann set to take on the role of Elite Player Development Coach as part of the Professional Development Phase.
McCann transitions into this position from his previous role as the technical director of the academy. In his new capacity, he will collaborate closely with the U21 head coach, David Horseman, and other coaching staff.
A major focus for McCann will be the individual development of young players. He will also have a hand in working with teams participating in the UEFA Youth League and the EFL Trophy.
Holding a UEFA A coaching licence, McCann joined Arsenal in January 2025 after serving as the head of the academy coaching department at Blackburn Rovers.
Prior to this, he led the academy at Lincoln City and spent nine years within the Luton Town system, taking on various roles, including head of academy coaching.
This new role will allow McCann to concentrate directly on aiding young players in their transition to higher levels of football and preparing them for professional careers.
McCann has previously emphasised the importance of trust between coach and player. He believes that a coach must take into account the individual traits of each player and know when to raise demands and when to allow more freedom.
For Arsenal, nurturing its academy remains a crucial part of the club's long-term strategy. McCann's appointment is expected to enhance the development of promising players as they move into professional football.
