Tottenham are considering Arne Slot as a potential candidate if Roberto De Zerbi fails to turn things around. The former Liverpool boss could make a Premier League comeback, according to ESPN.

Arne Slot could be on the verge of a Premier League return with Tottenham Hotspur as reports suggest he is being considered should the club opt to sever ties with Roberto De Zerbi.

The Dutch coach is currently without a job after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season. Slot led the Reds to their 20th league title during his first campaign at Anfield, earning himself the Premier League Manager of the Season award. However, his second season faltered, resulting in a fifth-place finish and subsequent dismissal in May, with Andoni Iraola taking over the reins.

Tottenham could revisit Slot's candidacy

As reported by ESPN, Slot is being viewed as a potential option for Tottenham, given the club’s struggles. Following a poor start to the season, where they managed just two points from the first five matches, Spurs find themselves languishing at the bottom of the table.

This early-season slump has placed De Zerbi under increasing pressure, although the club's hierarchy have publicly expressed their intent to back the Italian for now. However, should results fail to improve after the international break, their stance may shift.

Why Tottenham and not Manchester United?

Slot's name has also come up amid uncertainties around Manchester United's managerial situation. Yet, reports suggest a move to Old Trafford is unlikely due to his prior association with Liverpool, intensifying the club's rivalry.

Tottenham presents a more palpable opportunity for Slot to re-enter the English football scene. His favoured style—emphasising ball control, high pressing, and quick transitions—could resonate well with the current Spurs squad. Furthermore, new signings like Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes could provide solid options in central midfield, alongside attacking threats from the likes of James Maddison, Xavi Simons, and Dejan Kulusevski.
