Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has candidly admitted that the team's regular trophy success directly influences the grandeur of his own football legacy. The Argentine spent ten years in Manchester, scoring a record 260 goals in 390 appearances, winning five Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and six League Cups.
In an interview with FourFourTwo, the legendary forward stressed that the current team's successes continue to honour the generation that built this dynasty:
I left in 2021 after ten happy years, but I want City to keep winning. If they keep lifting trophies and signing top stars even now, it enhances and solidifies my personal legacy at the club.
However, the former forward also pointed out the flip side: a decline in the team's fortunes could quickly erase past triumphs from the public's memory:
If they go down the wrong path, people will stop talking about City as much. The longer the club stays at the top, the more it's talked about, and that means the players from my era are remembered more too. For me and all the guys I shared the pitch with, it guarantees our names will remain at the summit of glory.
